Herbert Sherman Burling, Jr., age 89, died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at The Oaks at The Marshes of Skidaway Island surrounded by his family.
The funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Giddens officiating.
Sherman was born in Elmira, New York on July 11, 1922 to the late Herbert Sherman Burling, Sr. and Marjorie Kelley Burling. He graduated from Cornell University with the class of 1944 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was retired from Burling Instrument Company and was a WWII veteran having served with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippines. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include, his wife, Anne Nichols (Nancy) Burling of The Marshes and his children and their spouses, Dr. John Nichols Burling and wife Linda of Bluffton, SC, James Sherman Burling and wife Angela of Orangevale, CA, Cynthia Anne Hentschke and husband Harald of Hamburg Germany, his grandchildren, Julie Elaine Burling, Laura Burling Reising and Emmylou Hentschke.
Graveside rites will be held at 9:00 am, Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Fair Mount Cemetery in Chatham, New Jersey with Doyle Funeral Home in charge.
