Henry H. Scott, age 89, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Henry was his first name but his middle name “Hugh” was what they called him! Born in Emanuel County December 12, 1935 to Randolph R. and Reba L. Scott. He attended Oak Chapel School in Swainsboro before moving to Savannah, Georgia, while in the 5th grade. He attended Chatham Junior High School and graduated from Commercial High School in 1954.
Before graduation, He was hired by Union Camp Corp and worked there until he went to Parris Island in 1956 for basic training! Already a USMC reservist in the 5th rifle company, he was active for 6 months when he received his draft notice!
After Parris Island he returned home to marry the “love of his life” Alberta Knight, and took her with him to his next duty station. Over 60 years of marriage they produced two sons, Michael A. Scott (Robin) and Paul S. Scott (Michelle) and 4 grandchildren, Michael, Jr., Christopher, Anne and Parker Denmark.
Upon return from active service, Hugh returned to Union Camp as a relief supervisor. Being an aggressive person as he was, Hugh pursued other careers. He was hired by Electrical Machinery Company and created a career of 22 years as General Sales Manager over material handling sales in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida, creating 150 rental trucks thru out the industry. He became an active principle when the electrical portion of the company was sold to Westinghouse. The Yale franchise was promoted and moved to another location in Savannah and operated in Charleston and Jacksonville. During this time he created the Cushman franchise over 3 states, increasing geographically the largest in the country. He and Alberta traveled with this position to England, Spain, Acapulco, South Africa and many other areas within the United States.
As this was not enough for this ambitious man, he partnered with his wife and built their own home in Dutch Island. From there they continued to build numerous prestigious homes in Dutch Island, The Landings, Wylly Island, Southbridge, Westbrook, Richmond Hill’s Strathy Hall & Oxford and even a commercial shopping center off Chatham Parkway, bought and built homes in a subdivision in Brooklet, GA.
A Charter member in the Exchange Club of Savannah for 30 years he helped to create a club in Richmond Hill. A member of the Lions Club and Charter member of Rotary Club of Richmond Hill, a Cobra Club Member, and Home Builders.
Member of Memorial Baptist Church for 15 years, where he served as Deacon, worked with the RA boys, went on camping trips and oyster roasts. After his sons left for school they joined Isle of Hope Baptist Church and were members for 10 years. Present member of the Senior Sunday School and Bible Baptist Church with whom he traveled to the Holy Land and said it was the best trip ever. He loved the Lord and became a Christian as a teen and served the Lord ever since.
He is predeceased by his brother, Jimmy N. Scott and his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and their wives, and all grandchildren look forward to meeting them and all his friends in this life on the other side!
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2025 at Bible Baptist Church, 4700 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31404. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bible Baptist Church.
