Helen Powell Robinson, age 91, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 peacefully in her sleep after a long illness.
Helen was born November 5, 1931 in Newington, Georgia to the parents of Mary Alice Cleland Sing and Willie Powell. She attended school in Screven County before beginning work at Union Camp where she was a machine operator for 33 years. Helen was a devoted member of The Sanctuary of Savannah for many years. She enjoyed socializing with her many friends there and worship.
Helen was spunky, strong-willed, independent, and a firecracker. She never hesitated to let others know what exactly was on her mind. She loved to cook. Throughout the years, she perfected her red velvet cake which she topped with homemade boiled icing. She enjoyed crafts and sewing; she often attended craft shows to gather ideas for new projects. Helen spent her spare time vacationing on cruise ships with her church friends, and spending time eating ice cream by Lake Mayer with her best friend Myra Williams. Above all else, she loved her Lord and enjoyed being with her Christian family.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Alice Cleland Sing, J.T. Sing, and Willie “Bill” Powell; her husband of 10 years, Joseph Donald Robinson; her daughter, Edith Nell Lee; and her beloved travel partner Steve Baldwin.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia B. Eichenlaub (Bruce) of Covington, Georgia; her son, Frank B. Bland III (Dana) of Mulino, Oregon, bonus children; Mark Dennis Robinson (Debbie) of the Villages, Florida, and Patricia Evelyn Robinson Blitch (Ray) of Brooklet, Georgia and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
