Savannah

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hakeem Onterrio "Royal" Gadson, who departed this life on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at the age of 29. Born on a beautiful Sunday morning, March 19th, 1995, Hakeem was a beacon of light and joy for all who knew him.

A lifelong resident of Savannah, Georgia, Hakeem was known for his indescribable presence that could fill any room with warmth and positivity. He was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Resorts at Pooler, where his compassionate care and uplifting spirit left an indelible mark on all whom he encountered.

Hakeem's life was centered around his deep love for the Lord, his family, and his community. A beloved son of Tanika Gadson, and cherished son to Craig Goodwin, Sr., and Herman Fields, Jr., he was the living embodiment of strength and kindness. As a brother to Sanika Gadson, Sanaa Gadson, Chelsea Goodwin, Craig Goodwin, Jr., Malik Goodwin, and Marquise Goodwin, Hakeem was fondly referred to as "the main character" by his sister Sanaa—a testament to his vibrant personality and the life he brought to every gathering.

He leaves behind his loving maternal grandmother, Sandra Dunham, who, along with his uncles Derrick Mitchell (Tranesia), Brandon Broomfield, and Theron Broomfield, and aunts Karen Broomfield, Syette Rivers (Stacey), and Kiersa Broomfield, cherished him deeply.

Hakeem follows in the footsteps of his grandfathers, Paul Mitchell, Sr., and Eugene Broomfield, paternal grandmother Sarah Goodwin, and uncle Paul Mitchell, Jr., who preceded him in death.

Hakeem will be remembered as a beloved confidant and friend, a person who made friends fast and touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His mother lovingly recalls him as the strongest man she knew, a fighter and enduring optimist. In every setting, he was the life of the party, sharing laughter and love with family and friends alike.

A memorial gathering will be held in his honor at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

Hakeem's spirit will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to the profound impact one can have through unwavering positivity, faith, and love. While our world feels a little dimmer with his passing, we find solace in knowing that his light shines eternally in our memories and in the presence of the Lord. May his soul rest in peace.
