Gregory David Collins, age 70, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 26, 2023.
Greg was born in Savannah Georgia to the parents of J.C. and Ethel Collins. Starting from a young age Greg was always independent and was always on the go. In the late 1970's he worked at the Savannah Morning News in printing and was later featured in a article for his work. He went on to become a type setter for Keith Plaques in Atlanta for many years, then moving on to later work in shipping for Specialty Engraving. His life took him to many places, but he always came home. His family was always important to him, and he had many friends that became family too. As a child Greg learned to play the piano, and as he continued to play throughout his life he loved to play gospel music. Greg loved to bake and cook for his family and friends. He was known for his carrot cake and peanut butter fudge that he would make for all the holidays, and his beefaroni he cooked for his family when they came to visit him. Greg loved listening to all types of music, but country is what he loved the most. He would enjoy going to country music festivals and concerts with his sister and her family.
Greg was a member of First Baptist Church of Sylvania, where he attended until his health declined the last few years. But he was still able to continue to watch from home every Sunday. He has always enjoyed and was very proud to listen to the teachings of Pastor Charlie Cooper, who was also his loving cousin.
Greg is survived by his sister, Catherine "Cathy" Elizabeth Spikes; his niece, Melanie Elizabeth Spikes; his sister in-law, Sheryl Collins; his nephews, Randall "Randy" Collins Jr., Matthew Collins (Amanda); his aunt, Angela Bragg; a very special niece, Laura Cribb; and lots of loving cousins and lifelong friends.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Ethel Collins; his brother, Randy Collins Sr.; his nephew, David Spikes; his cousin, Lori Bragg; his uncle; Melton Bragg; and brother in-law, Vince Spikes.
