Gordon Madison Welch

Gordon Madison Welch, Born February 11, 1945, passed away in the morning hours of Sunday, October 3, 2021. Known affectionately as “Papa Don” His loving and compassionate personality will be sorely missed. After spending years working in the family restaurants, Papa Don was known for his tremendous cooking ability and his famous Brunswick stew. He worked as a delivery driver for Breyer’s Ice Cream before his retirement. He was a graduate of Savannah High School and was a member of the class of 1963. He was a skilled baseball player in his youth and was an avid Atlanta sports fan. He was also a loyal Deacon at Riverside Baptist Church and a practicing member of First Baptist Church of the Islands in his later years.

He is survived by his wife Dolly, sister Linda Essary, brother Greg and his wife Dunice, several nieces and nephews, and 2 step children.

A memorial service will be held there on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive.
