Gloria Carolyn Hartwell

d. October 29, 2016

Gloria Carolyn Hartwell - March 7, 1937 - October 27, 2016

Carolyn was born in Savannah, Georgia and was preceded in death by her parents Marion Joseph Carbonell and Ruby Conaway Carbonell. She is survied by her husband Edwin Lester Hartwell of Midway, Georgia; sister Shirley Hoke, Bogart, Georgia; son Joey Hartwell (Sally); daughters Debbie Sakai (Jim) of Seattle, Washington, Patty Ward (Craig) of Midway, Georgia and Angie Taft (Gary) of Pearson, Georgia; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She spent 25 years traveling the world as an Air Force wife with her husband Ed and their four children. From Africa to Okinawa and many U.S. Bases in between. She was an active member of the Midway First Baptist Church including Women on Mission.

Carolyn enjoyed her traveling so much that she and Ed spent many years traveling around the country after retirement. Including Alaska, Canada and many trips to Washington to spend summers with their grandchildren.

Her gift of creativity showed in her decorating of cakes for special occasions and creating gifts with her many craft projects. Both of which she loved teaching her grandchildren to develop and enjoy.

Carolyn was an accomplished cook. The smells coming from the kitchen captured and teased our imaginations and coaxed us into repeated trips into the kitchen for visual confirmation of treats promised by the smells. She knew how to mix and meld ingredients together to achieve the textures & taste that our mouths desired. Her culinary skill was awesome but there was something that set her above great cooks...she had a secret ingredient! She knew the value of a family meal! A meal where we all sat down together to share in this feast. A meal where sorrow and joy where shared, where you had time to reconnect. This secret ingredient is part of her legacy that she has passed down to her children and will be passed down for generations to come.
