Gloria Andrews Sumner, age 85, of Savannah passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at home.
Mrs. Sumner was born on February 27, 1937 in Macon, GA, the daughter of the late Jefferson Greenwood Andrews and Edith Josephine Kitchens Andrews. Gloria was raised in Savannah and was a 1954 graduate of Commercial High School. She served as a secretary with the Savannah Morning News, an office manager with the Savannah Yacht Club, and for many years as the financial secretary with White Bluff United Methodist Church. She was also co-owner of Andy’s Lawn Machinery with her husband, Wayne. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Savannah Chapter No. 52 and Past Worthy Matron of Laurel Chapter No. 51. She served for 37 years on the Grand Chapter of Georgia, Order of the Eastern Star Precision Drill Team and was a Past Assistant Grand Drill Director as well as a Past Grand Marshal.
Mrs. Sumner is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Wayne Sumner; daughter, JoAnne Gloria Sumner Thames (James); son, Matt Gene Wilds (Gail); brother-in-law, Jerry Sumner (Bonnie); grandchildren, Jade Thames Kavanaugh (Kris), Jairen Thames, and Jace Thames; and great grandchildren, Josie Kate, Julianna, and John Kole Kavanaugh.
The family will be receiving friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed by an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel with burial following at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
