Glenda Brannen Smith passed away at the age of 77 on Monday, December 19 in the presence of family at her home in Savannah. She was under the care of Hospice Savannah. Glenda was born and raised in Glennville, Ga. After graduating from Glennville High school she attended business school in Savannah, Ga. It was here where she met her future husband of 52 years Gary D. Smith.
Glenda devoted her life to her husband and two sons Denny and Timmy. She was a loving and attentive mother who loved camping, fishing, snorkeling and other outdoor adventures with her family while living in South Florida. She returned to Savannah with her husband in 1987 to be close to family and to pursue a career in accounting. After working as an accountant at Southbridge Glenda worked as an accountant at Candler Hospital for 17 years before retiring in 2012. She loved her work and the friendships she developed while at Candler.
While living in Savannah Glenda and her husband Gary were very involved in the Sierra club and shared a mutual love of the natural world. They played leadership roles and enjoyed holding gatherings for the Sierra club at their home on the marsh. She traveled throughout North America and the Caribbean with her husband as this was a common bond they shared. In her final days she continued to love watching the sunsets over the marsh and the Vernon River.
Glenda is survived by her two sons, Denny D. Smith (Jenny) of Savannah and Timothy G. Smith (Kim) of Hendersonville, NC; 3 grandchildren, Danielle, Maddie, and Austin.
Visitation will be held at the Baker McCullough funeral home on Wednesday, December 21 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at the Baker McCulloughfuneral home on Thursday, December 22 at 10:00 AM. There will be a graveside service in Glennville, Ga. at the Beards Creek Cemetery at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sierra Club or the Hospice Savannah Foundation.
