Gladys Evans Deason

d. May 12, 2017

Gladys Marie Evans Deason, 95, born November 30, 1921 passed away May 10, 2017 at  3:31, Miss Gladys went to be in the arms of our Lord surrounded by beloved family under the gracious care of Hospice of West Alabama. She was a resident of Cottondale, Alabama.  A Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern star, and a female Shriner, Miss Gladys "Nana" is loved by so many. She is a shining example of faith, giving, kindness, and strength.  She spent her early years during the great depression, and always was very mindful to save everything, just in case something was needed. Her favorite activity besides spending time with her many grandchildren was gardening. She grew food all her life, and often to the dislike of her grandchildren, taught them how to grow food as well. She had an especially green thumb! One of the funniest things about her, was that she would bend over and touch the floor with the palm of her hands, and would show many a passerby. She gave whatever was asked of her, whether it was a shoulder to cry on, advice on what the wise thing to do was, or how to make dumplings. She loves God with all her heart, and always had faith that the Lord would lead her through the good times as well as the bad. We give thanks for these and all our many blessings, and most gratefully for our Nana. A lady who will never be replaced and never be forgotten. She has gone to take a much needed fishing trip, and maybe a dance or two with her beloved husband of 38 years, Alton. Dance on, Momma and Daddy. Thank you for the memories which we will cherish always.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Alton Evans, mother Jessie McDaniel (nee Darley), father Vernon McDaniel, siblings Lee, Butler, Evelyn, Brooks, Russel, Meryle, daughter Jeanette, sons Jerry and Harold, three great-grandchildren Heaven Lashae Ross, Cecil Neville-Ross, and Ashley Hope Lemley.

Her legacy is carried on by: Sister Joan Borem (David), Brother Archie (Patsy), Daughter Phyllis Ross (Larry),Son James Alton Evans Jr. (Yuli). Grandchildren: Jim Ross, Jim Evans III, Sheri Lemley, Dan Evans, Deann Evans, Brittany Ruiz, and Alaine Evans. Great Grandchildren: Jamie, James, Tyler, Zach, Taylor, Jordan, Shelby, Kyle, Ashley, Hailey, Reagan, Malorie, Ryan, Cristian, Abigail, and Erik.  Great Great Grandchildren: Everleigh and Luca due June 27th 2017.
