Our beloved Gigi Gardner South, 61, of Savannah, Ga, passed away on March 14, 2023, after a brave battle with breast cancer.
Gigi Gardner South was born on June 10, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mary Gusta and Herbert Colby Gardner. Gigi went on to receive her Bachelor degree in Communications, Special Education at The University of Memphis after graduating from Frayser High School in 1979. In Memphis, she began teaching Homebound Special Education for the Shelby County School System. Gigi then furthered her education with a Masters in Teaching from The University of Memphis and continued her teaching career. At the time of her death, she was an online support teacher at Georgia Cyber Academy, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and the support from her coworkers and students was greatly appreciated throughout her illness.
Gigi enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also shared her love for gardening and spending time with her animals. She always showed great passion for animals. She was also an excellent writer who enjoyed music.
Gigi was predeceased by her parents and husband, Michael South.
She is survived by two daughters, Mikki Cheatham (Jasen) and Jessica Contreras (Manfredo). She had four grandsons whom she adored: Ashten and Kaden Cheatham, Elian and Azaiah Contreras. She was the youngest of four siblings, survived by Lilly Gardner, Sheree Lence, and David Gardner.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pooler Bible Church on April 14, 2023, at 3 p.m (Eastern Time). The service will be live-streamed on Pooler Bible’s Facebook page.
