Our beautiful, sweet, and wonderful Georgianne “Gigi” Thornburgh was at home and passed peacefully with her family holding her hand to help walk her to her Eternal Home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, July 19, 2021. Gigi was the sweetest soul, says everyone who knew her.
Born on May 5,1948, in Fort Riley, Kansas to Robert and Patricia (née Cox) Jackson. She lived a life of great adventure. After graduating from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, VA, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Thornburgh, and remained faithful and loving to her husband for 53 years.
Gigi loved to travel. As a young girl, she was lucky to live in Japan and Germany for a period of time. After she was married, she and Charlie had two little girls, and the adventures continued, as she was the wife of an USAF fighter pilot. Nowhere was too far; however, Hawaii was always her favorite place she lived.
Once settled in Georgia and her girls became teenagers, she went back to school and got her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Georgia Southwestern University. Later, she would fulfill another dream, and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of South Carolina. She used her knowledge and education to work for Lutheran Hospice in Charleston, SC, where she went on to use that compassionate heart of hers to lovingly care for patients who all adored her.
In her earlier years, she loved jogging- she did many, many competitive runs. There was not a Saturday that would go by that she wouldn’t get out of bed and go running. She was an avid, and accomplished sewer, photographer, and especially loved caring for her Plumeria trees. She and her husband did pre-marriage counseling, and also loved her church and small group so very much. Even after such a long illness, she always had a smile. When she could no longer communicate verbally, her beautiful eyes conveyed the expression and her giant personality so aptly. She was funny. She was silly. She was strong, and she was brave. We will miss her, but we are so excited that she is with Jesus. We know through God’s promises that we will see that precious woman beautiful, whole, and well again one day.
Surviving Georgianne is her precious husband who took care of her until her last breath, Charles Thornburgh; two daughters, Rachel (Dane), and Stephanie (Steve); Grandchildren, Lindsey, Casey, Kayley, Gabriel, Brad, and Rachael; four precious great grandchildren; her sisters, Stephanie, and Bobbie (Craig), and baby brother, Michael Jackson; 17 nieces and nephews, and dozens of great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both her mother and father, and her nephew, Stephen Rabbitt.
A Celebration of life for everyone’s favorite Gigi will be held on Saturday July 24, 2021.

The Thornburgh family would like to thank so many of you for loving our Gigi through the years. She never met a stranger, and was a friend for life. She loved so many, and always had room for more. Thank you to her church family, her beautiful friends and neighbors, her precious nurses over the years. Special love and thankfulness for her Pruitt Hospice nurses, Tina and Michelle, CNA Ashtin; and her beautiful friends and caregivers, Tamiko Sardis and Gloria Gilbert.
We will never stop loving Gigi. She takes a part of our hearts that can never, and should never be replaced. We rejoice because we know she is dancing, praising, worshipping this very moment with Christ, her Savior.
