Georgia Lorraine Gunter, a beloved resident of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17th, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born in Savannah on a crisp Sunday, January 14th, 1945, Lorraine was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her life.
Lorraine was a proud graduate of Robert W. Groves High School, class of 1963. Her thirst for knowledge led her to earn a B.A. in Education from Armstrong State University and a B.S. from Georgia Southern University. She dedicated her career to nurturing young minds as a paraprofessional with the Chatham County Board of Education in Savannah, Georgia.
A longtime member of Bible Baptist Church, Lorraine was known for her unwavering faith and her vibrant spirit. She never met a stranger and brought joy to every room she entered. Her dedication as a wife, mother, teacher, homemaker, and friend was evident in all facets of her life. Lorraine had a profound love for gardening, traveling, quilting, and sewing. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished piano player who shared her talents generously.
Lorraine is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, James "Jimmy" Gunter, and her loving children, James Wade Gunter and his wife Kendall, and Joy Fennell and her husband James. She was a cherished Mimi to Christian Stuckey, Dougie Gunter, Julia Gunter, Max Gunter, Ronan Gunter, and Sadie Gunter. Her siblings, Edwards "Bubba"; Weeks, Gayla Kessler (Jerry), Elgin Weeks (Wanda), Judy Strickland, Dora Clark (Charles), Irma Weeks, Eula Pastecki (Mike), and Henry Weeks (Ellen), along with her sister-in-law Elaine Morris, numerous nieces, and nephews, also mourn her passing.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her father, George H. Weeks, her mother, Louise R. Weeks, and her baby brother, Carl David Weeks.
A visitation will be held at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia, on Thursday, February 20th, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at Bible Baptist Church on Friday, February 21st, 2025, at 11:00 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and bid farewell. Burial will be at Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Road.
Lorraine's warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her will be dearly missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
