George W. Arnold, 70, passed away Saturday, March 26th at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro , GA.
after a courageous battle with cancer. George was born July 8th, 1945 at St. Joseph's Hospital to the late George A. and Ruby B. Arnold. He grew up in Savannah and attended Chatham County public schools and was a resident of Groveland at the time of his death. At an early age George joined the GA National Guard and served for 8 years. He began working with the local sheet metal union #85 and worked there for over 50 years. He was working as the union's business agent, an elected position, when he was forced to retire in 2000 due to failing health. George loved fishing, hunting, Nascar and his cat Sara. He was his hunting club's, Lotts Creek, Treasurer for many years.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters and brothers in-law, Kitty Lamb (James) and Lynda Coppage (Ed).
He is survived by wife, Mary, two daughters, Dawn Holton (Carl) of Guyton and Terrie Arnold (Jimmy). Of Claxton and grandchildren, C.J., Carter, Sarah Dawn, Addie, Karlie, and Raylin, sister Martha Peeples (Tommy) of Eden, Step-children Kevin and Shane Hendrix, Keith Jarvis, Keith and Tina Padgett and numerous nieces and nephews. We wish to thank the Ogeechee Area Hospice for their loving care during George's stay. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
