George Leeon Long, 71, passed away at his home October 20, 2020.
He was born May 6, 1949 in Hampton, SC to the late Robert Long and Willie M. and Ruth Priester Senn. After his mother remarried to Willie M. Senn, his family moved to Savannah, GA where he graduated from Jenkins High School in 1967. Later he met the love of his life, Emily Jane Ridgle. They married in 1970.
He worked at Great Dane Trailers for 40 years as a floor assembler, welder, and supervisor. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching and reading sci-fi, playing pool, football, baseball, fishing, woodworking, making improvements to his house, and tinkering in general. He was a jack of all trades and a master of none.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Emily Ridgle Long; a sister, Diane Mahaney; a brother, Gregg Senn; and a son in law, John Rhoney.
Surviving are three sons, Lee Long (Anna), Kevin Long (Kim), and Lindsay Long, all of Savannah; a daughter, Melissa Long Rhoney (Dan Harris) of Mississippi; five grandchildren, Juliann, April, and Ashley Robertson, Eliza Long and Sophie Harris; a sister, Jennifer Gandy of Savannah; In-law siblings, John B Ridgle of Ruffin, SC, and Dianna Yarbrough of Bluffton, SC; nieces, Tracy Whitman of Lowell, IN, Vicki Parker of Waycross, GA, and Kenna Robertson of Hardeeville, SC; and nephew Jamie Gandy of Savannah, GA.
The family has entrusted Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hubert C. Baker Chapel with arrangements.
