George K. McLamb, 92, passed away on May 26, 2018 at his home in Meldrim, Georgia surrounded by his family under the care of Compassionate Care Hospice. He was a devoted father, grandfather and uncle. He never met a stranger and was a friend to many.
George was the son of John and Vera KinchenMcLamb. He was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia where he attended Massie Elementary School, Chatham Junior High School and Savannah High School. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Fulmar (AMC 46) Minesweeper Atlantic. After service he settled in Miami, Florida for 47 years where he was the youngest manager in the history of Mary McIntosh Diaper Service and a supervisor for Miami Laundry. In 1991, he retired from Security Life Insurance in Miami where he was employed as a local and regional manager.
In July of 1995, George returned to Georgia.He umpired softball and baseball for Effingham County Recreation Department for several years. He worked for over 10 years at Tell 'N Sell when he finally retired at the age of 88. He loved the Lord and was a faithful servant as an active member of Meldrim Baptist Church where he was a trustee, usher, member of Faith in Action Sunday School Class and Brotherhood, and served on the financial committee. George loved sports and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Miami Dolphins. He enjoyed golfing, attending church, listening to Christmas music, telling stories from the past and spending time with his family.
George was preceded in death by his parents John and Vera McLamb; brother Cornell McLamb and sisters Verdie Engels and Vera Dale Melanson.
He is survived by his loving daughter Angie Trull (Matt), special nephew Gary Kaiser (Gwen), grandchildren Holly McNally (Jay), DeLynneTrull and Matthew Trull, Jr. (Brittany), Great grandchildren Jayce McNally, Ayden McNally and a soon to be born grandson, Honorary granddaughter Sabrina Brown (Tyler), and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Meldrim Baptist Church. There will be a visitation from 11:30-1:00. Services will be officiated by Rev. Chad Eason and Dr. Daryl Bailey. Honorary Pall Bearers: Andrew Bunton, Ronnie McLamb, Charles Phillips, Michael Phillips, Timmy Phillips, Joseph Melanson and Tyler Brown
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Meldrim Baptist Church Building Fund.
