George Jue, 92, of Savannah and husband of Catherine Woo Jue, died, Wednesday evening at Azalealand Nursing Home.
He was born on February 12, 1924 in Augusta, GA, the son of the late Goon Yick Jue and the late Fong Shoo Jue. As a youth, George played baseball as a second baseman for the American Legion organization (Legion Ball). He was a graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta, GA and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Benning as an MP, Camp Lee in Virginia and in the Philippines during World War II.
In the 1970's, George and his brothers, Ted and Harry, opened one of the Original 7-11 stores at Hayner's Creek in Savannah. He is remembered by former customers as an honest, hardworking man who treated them like family.
Mr. Jue was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Raymond Jue, Sr., Theodore Jue and Tommy Jue.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Woo Jue of Savannah; daughters, Barbara Jue Johns and her husband, Jack of Rincon, Marsha Jue Markesteyn and her husband Benny of Savannah, Susan Jue Hines and her husband Bill of Seven Valleys, PA; grandchildren, Barry Johns and his wife, LeAnn of Macon, Emily Markesteyn of Savannah, Elizabeth Hines of Seven Valleys, PA, Sarah Hines of Jersey City,NJ; great-grandchildren Parker and Patrick Johns of Macon; brother, Harry Jue Sr. of Savannah; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 12 from 10:00am -11:30am at Baker McCullough Funeral Home - Hodgson Chapel (Formerly Fairhaven Funeral Home) 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 in the funeral home chapel following the visitation. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any donations be made to Ogeechee Riverkeeper PO Box 16206 Savannah, GA 31416 or the Humane Society for Greater Savannah 7215 Sallie Mood Drive Savannah, GA 31406.
