Genevieve Farmer, 94, a long time resident of Savannah, died peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2017 in Kennesaw, GA where she had resided for the past 3 years. The family thanks hospice staff for easing her transitioning.
Genevieve was born in Brooklyn, NY to Adolf Otto and Susan Catherine Thiem, had siblings Ruth and Eugene, was married to Thomas Allen Farmer, was mother to five children, Thomas Edward, Ellen Catherine, Paul Kenneth, Laura Genevieve (deceased), and Monica Hayden, and she had 9 wonderful grandchildren. Not one to show a great deal of outward emotion, she was extremely proud of her family and especially how well family members support each other.
During the early years, she helped her husband with his tax and insurance business, sold Easterling china to help support the large family, and was a bookkeeper for many years in Savannah. She was fond of a needlepoint piece that said 'Old Bookkeepers Never Die - They Just Lose Their Balance'. Genevieve explored genealogy, made most of her own clothes, and enjoyed knitting head covers for premature babies at local Savannah hospitals.
There will be a mass at St. James church at 2 pm on Friday, Sept 1 followed immediately by a burial near her deceased husband at the Catholic Cemetery in Savannah. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
