Garry Wesley McKee Sr. died June 28, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He was born in Statesboro, Georgia on October 23rd, 1943 to Algy Vernon McKee and Matilou Turner McKee. Growing up in Atlanta, he was a football and track star. Garry graduated from Avondale High School in 1962 and played on a football scholarship at Mississippi State University. Living most of his adult life in Jacksonville, Florida, he spent the last fifteen years in Savannah Georgia. He was a gifted athlete, a smooth dancer, and a superb artist. As a professional watercolor artist, he received multiple awards and accolades at many art shows and events from the 1970’s through the 2000’s.
He was preceded in death by his father Algy Vernon McKee Sr and mother Matilou. His surviving siblings are brother Algy Vernon McKee Jr (Pam) of Atlanta, sister Matilon McKee Tilitski (Mike) of St Simons Island, and Uncle Jack Turner (Frances) of Portal, GA.
His legacy includes daughters Veronica Micke, Andrea Poole (Rob), Tricia George (Nathan), and son Garry McKee II (Jamie), ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous paintings that can be found in fine collections across the country. We will grieve his death until such time as we join him in glory.
He lived and loved. He was important, he was loved, and his life was meaningful.
