Frederick (Fred) Emmett Miller Sr., age 81, of Savannah, gained his angel wings and entered the kingdom of heaven on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Mr. Miller was born on January 5, 1944 in Savannah to the late Louis Donald Miller and the late Mary Elizabeth Hardaway Miller of Savannah.
Frederick was a mechanic by trade and an icon to other mechanics who knew him. You would often hear “If Fred can’t fix it, no one can”. In 1963, he married Mildred Walz and became the father of their 3 beautiful children, Lynn, Theresa, and Ricky. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1550 for many years and participated in many events at the Lodge. He was a Christian by faith. Fred was an avid lover of the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs and all animals, especially his beloved dogs Journey and Ginger. He loved to sit in his recliner and watch old western movies and Matlock and if he wasn’t out and about that is where you could find him. He enjoyed doing many things such as crabbing, fishing, working on old cars or anything with a motor, as well as helping others in his community. If you didn’t see him on the front porch hanging out with his squirrel friends feeding them Peanuts, you could always find him in the shop hanging out with the guys or riding his golf cart around the neighborhood making sure everyone was ok and had everything they needed. He was a good neighbor and an even greater friend. He was known as either Papa Fred or Uncle Fred to most, but either way he was known as family. He loved to celebrate the people he loved. His favorite part was always the cake and ice cream. He would always get excited when the holidays came around because he knew all of the people he loved the most would be there. He was a very devoted husband and father, not just to his children but to many who were not his own. He loved his family and grandchildren with all of his heart. He never met a stranger and had a heart like none ever known. He touched the hearts of every person he met with his sweet smile and sparkly blue eyes that always welcomed anyone in.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Miller; two sisters, Louise Addison and Madelyn McDonough; and two brothers, Donald Miller and Hugh Miller all of Savannah; son-in-law, Randy Mitchell of Savannah; and his great granddaughter, Faith Reaves.
He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Todd of Savannah and Theresa Lee (Donnie) of Savannah; son, Ricky Miller (Sarah) of Savannah; 12 grandchildren, Amber South (Luke), Jessica Mitchell (Trevor), Randy Mitchell, Hunter Miller, Ceara Lee, Celeste Eubank (Tom), Celina Lambeth (Markus), Tyler Lee (Shannon), Kimmie Miller (Chris), David Roe, Brittany Mann (Michael), Mai-le Miller. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, Emma, Kyleigh, Kaycee, Remy, William, Indie, Tre, Kimara, Christiana, CJ, Christopher, Destiney, Baby Christopher; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews who he loved dearly.
