Fred Doyle Standard,85, of Savannah and widower of Billie Marilyn Combee Standard, died, Monday, October 3rd, 2016 at Candler Hospital .

He was born on June 18, 1931 in Reidsville, Georgia, the son of the late Garland Poole and Mamie Jewel Strickland Standard.

Fred was a graduate of Reidsville High School and served his country in the United States Navy as a Medic on a hospital ship during the Korean Conflict.

He became a Medical Technologist after attending Armstrong University and spent his career working for Dr. Harry Rollings, Hunter Army Air Field, Westside Urban Health, American Red Cross, Candler, St. Joseph's and Memorial Hospitals. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Directors Staff, and the Culinary Committee at Alee Shrine Temple, Masons, Evans Shrine Club, Past President of the Chatham County Farm Bureau Board, Forest City Gun Club - (former Chairman of Roads and Grounds), American Medical Technologists, Athletic Boosters of SCPS, Band Boosters of SCPS. He earned his private pilot's license and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bird watching, sports and was an animal lover.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Billie; son, Little Fred; two brothers, Theron Standard and Wyndell Standard.

Survivors include his daughter, Shana Standard of Savannah; two sons, Tony of Savannah and Kelly of Savannah; brother, Dr. Paul G. Standard (Margaret) of Fernandina Beach, Fl; sister-in-law, Retha of Hinesville; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, in the Chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Greenwich Cemetery.
