Frank M. Brantley, 88, of Statesboro, GA passed away on Saturday June 8, 2019 at his home.
Born in Statesboro, GA, he was the son of the late Eddie R. Sr. and Bessie Mae Brantley. He began his racing career in the early 1950's and was a member of the Nascar Racing Circuit. He won the Dover Downs in the 1970's and was well known on the dirt track in Savannah, Jacksonville, and Oglethorpe Speedway. Frank was the first race car driver to be inducted into the Savannah Athlete's Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also a member of the Oglethorpe Speedway and Jacksonville Hall of Fame. Frank was a veteran of the US Army and fought in the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Acacia #452.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie R. and Bessie Mae Brantley; brothers, Eddie R. II and Marshall K. Brantley; first wife of 20 years, Opal Brantley Stierwalt.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Higginbotham Brantley; daughters, Janie Tomlinson (Mitchell), Lynette Chappelle (Bart), and Diane Hamby (Brian); son, Frank Brantley II (Banita); 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; extended family, David and Debbie Chambers, Terry Pye, and Russel Batten.
Visitation: 2pm to 3pm Tuesday June 11, 2019 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Garden City Chapel with a Funeral Service at 3pm.
Interment will follow at Greenwich Cemetery.
