Frances Duke McKenzie (Dawson)
Ms. Frances passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.
She spent the majority of her adult life as a successful Savannah entrepreneur. She owned several businesses including the Blue Jay Restaurant, the Catfish House and Pandora's Dolls and Ceramics. Ms. Frances was well known for her feisty spirit and her fancy wardrobe; her passions included gardening, painting, buying beautiful clothes and spoiling her grandchildren and her niece, Lori and nephew, Jim.
Ms. Frances was preceded in death by parents, Reginald & Alma Youngblood Duke; her 1st husband, George B. McKenzie, Sr.; son, Mitchell McKenzie; brother, Ray Duke and her daughter-in-law, Virginia McKenzie.
Survivors include her sons, Raymond Gregg McKenzie, Sr., George Branford McKenzie, Jr., Johnny Dawson (Margie); grandchildren, Angie Bean (Doug), Carol Luke (Terry), Amber Smith (Luke), Daphne Harrell, Gregg McKenzie, Jr. (Kim), Mitchell McKenzie (Bethany), Mack McKenzie and Glen Evans (Pam); great grandchildren, Lacey, Courtney, Gregg III, Chloe, Zachary and Luke James; brother, William Duke (Marlene), sister-in-law, Anne Duke. She was married to Gene Dawson for 48 years.
The family would like to thank, Myrreld Roberson for the care and friendship, she gave and showed to our mother and grandmother.
Donations are asked to be made to Silk Hope Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Friday, May 13, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.; the funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel followed by entombment at Hillcrest Abbey East Memorial Park Cemetery.
