Frances Marie Cassel Berry passed away in Savannah, Georgia on October 7, 2022.
She was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on October 29, 1934, and was the daughter of J. Garland Cassel and Ruby S. Cassel. Frances graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1952 and attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia in 1952-1954.
Frances had no idea how her life would change when she agreed to accompany a friend at Wesleyan College on a double date with two cadets visiting from The Citadel during her first year of college. Frances met her future husband on that date. She married Jack K. Berry on April 24, 1954. They shared 68 wonderful years together before he passed on August 24, 2022. Frances was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years: in the nursery, in the choir, in Children’s Church and as a Sunday School teacher and prayer leader. She also loved her Tuesday morning Bible study group and gained strength and support from their fellowship together. She cherished her time singing and playing her autoharp at church and social gatherings.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Jack. She leaves behind a legacy of three children: J. Keith Berry, Jr. (Teresa), Karen B. Wharton (Charles), Christine B. Lloyd (Kevin); six grandchildren: Ryan S. Berry (Brittany), Spencer G. Berry, Charles G. Wharton (Ashli), Jack R. Wharton (Nicole), Beckett S. Lloyd and Hampton S. Lloyd; and two great grandchildren:
George Wharton and Annalise Berry.
Visitation with the family will begin at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 and will be held in the Hodgson Memorial Chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA. An interment will occur after the service, at Bonaventure Cemetery, 330 Bonaventure Road, Thunderbolt, GA 31404.
