Fonnie "Gene" Eugene Miles, Jr.
November 12, 1931 — February 25, 2021
On Thursday, February 25, 2021 Fonnie Eugene "Gene" Miles, Jr. departed for his heavenly home surrounded by his family and his furry companion, Precious. He was 89 years old.
Gene was born in Savannah, GA to Fonnie Eugene Miles and Clara Mae Tuttle. He served six years in the US Army, Military Police Corps., including service in Okinawa, Japan. He later went on to learn a trade in commercial refrigeration and worked expertly in that field for forty-five years.
Gene loved boating and fishing and was a member of the Savannah Shark Hunter's Club in the 70’s and 80’s. He loved flowers and working in the yard. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laugh, and loved to tease!
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Miles, and daughter, Rhonda Turner.
Gene is survived by his sisters, Frances Tindor, Kathleen Warenzak, and Caroline Mattingly; his children, Angela Parker (Danny), Gene Miles (Nora), Frank Miles (Peggy), Tina Wiles (Johnny), Ashley Beard (Chris), and Allen Miles; grandchildren, Heather Shaw (JR.), Corey Parker (Jess), John Wiles, Lindsey Johnson, James Miles, as well as eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Masks are required and it is asked that social distancing be practiced in accordance to CDC guidelines.
