Florence F. Scott

d. November 13, 2017

Florence F. Scott of Savannah, Georgia died Saturday, November 11th at home in the presence of friends and family. Florence was born on March, 25th 1934, in Kearny, NJ, to Thomas and Mary Quinn (Bishop). On July 19th,1958, she married William Scott, the love of her life.

After living in Syracuse, New York a number of years they moved to McMinnville, TN. There she learned how to drive a car, built a home, worked for years at a local department store, operated a daycare center and made many life -long friends. With her distinct New Jersey accent, unmistakeable laugh and her politely feisty liberal attitude she was a one of a kind original. Mom had a great sense of humor and possesed a sophisticated sense of style but if you asked anyone who had just met her or was a life- long friend, her signature trait was that of a compassionate person and a sincere listener. She became a trusted confidante to many over the years who sought her advice or just to talk.

When her husband became ill she moved back to New York to care for him and be closer to her family. All the while working full time at Aberham and Strauss then Macy's until she retired. Mom became more devout in her faith and was very active in her church and volunteered at many charities, most notably Christa House. She was fortunate to spend this time traveling to visit grandchildren, relatives in California and Washington and abroad to Italy, Ireland, Egypt and many other countries with her frequent traveling partner, her sister in law, Darlene Quinn.

Mom , finally fed up with with the Long Island winters and wanting to be a more active grandmother,(Nami), moved to Savannah, GA in 2008. While apprehensive on leaving family and her very close friends behind, she found a place to live that she truly loved and developed new deep friendships with her new neighbors. Moms frequent exploits with( The Fab Five ) and her friends and relatives that visited from out of town made sure that her social life was not in need. She also continued volunteering at the Humane Society Thrift Store and Magnolia Manor for many years. Mom loved Savannah and enjoyed going to all the museums, and festivals with her friends and was thrilled to discover that she shared the same birthday as one of her favorite writers ,Flannery O'Conner. Florence was iconic herself to all that knew and loved her and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years William Scott, her siblings, Katherine D'errico, David Quinn, Thomas Quinn and Elizabeth Patifio. She is survived by three sons ,John (Renae) Scott, of Savannah ,GA, William(Christelle) Scott of Brentwood,TN and James Scott of Murfreesboro,TN;  four grandchildren, William C. Scott, Jacob Q. Scott, Jackson L. Scott and Quinn H Scott. Along with cherished nieces and nephews and her close friends.
