Hudson (brother), Robert “Bobby” F. Hudson (brother), and Jack B. Hudson (brother). Surviving brother, John W. Hudson.
She was a mother of eight children and the Matriarch of the Family. Preceded in death by Ernest H. Futch (husband), Ray E. Chambers (son), Robert “Bubba” C. Chambers (son) and Anthony “Tony” H. Futch (son). She is survived by Suzanne Daniel (Jimmy) of Tennessee (daughter), William “Billy” D. Chambers of South Carolina (son), John David Chambers (Debbie) of Savannah, GA (son), Ellie M. Bacon (Ronnie) of Guyton, GA (daughter) and Julia K. Armstrong of Tennessee (daughter) and many many grandchildren and great grandchildren (too many to count).
Nell touched many people in her life. She is a hero to one of her granddaughters for the grace and strength she showed as she went through “life”. Her beautiful music, played either at church or in her living room, moved people. She loved to play the piano and organ. Endless memories with family spent gathered around, listening to or singing a favorite Hymn or simply “Jesus Loves Me”. She was a seamstress for her children and one shared memory is of the most amazing Prom dress for her daughter, Julia. She was soft and gentle until she needed to not be, her son, David, recalls his graduation, the rain poured, people rushed inside, slowly filling the small space, he said, she elbowed them all and told them to get out of her way because she WAS going to see her son graduate! She enjoyed cooking and there was always something on the stove. Her funniest memory shared with all, was her first attempt at homemade biscuits - flat is okay, as long as they taste good! She was an Entrepreneur, “AVON Calling” and won the Presidential Avon Representative award for Top Sales! There was always plenty of skin so soft and boxes and boxes and boxes of lotions, sugary chapsticks and makeup!
She loved to get her hands dirty in her gardens and simply enjoyed being outside. She was magic with plants and could grow anything. 10 green fingers! She loved floral patterns and colors: pinks, reds and purples. Flowers and plants everywhere!
She was a storyteller. She loved to talk. Telling of times at her graduating school, Vidette High with friends or times growing up on the farm. Her home had an open door policy to friends and family; “come-on in”, grab a glass of tea, a tomato sandwich or a slice of cake and talk for hours. She loved visitors and when her family stopped by. She was a selfless listener, as one granddaughter reflects, she never interrupted, never pushy and would offer advice as needed. She loved music and talking about dancing.
She was many things to many people over her 97 (plus a little) years - almost to 100! She touched many lives and left beautiful (and comical) memories for her family, friends, grandchildren and even the great grandchildren, to hold dear for generations to come. Her presence brought joy and love to those near and she will be deeply missed.
