Eugene (Gene) Allen Henderson, Sr. 81, a recent resident of Palm Bay, Florida formerly of Savannah, Georgia passed away with family at his bedside on July 9, 2022 after a short battle with cancer.
Gene was born on August 20, 1940 to Mary and Woodrow Henderson of Port Wentworth, Georgia. After graduating from Savannah High School in 1958, he landed his first job as a chemist with Union Camp and eventually retired from Carson Products. He was proud to have served his country in the Army National Guard for 23 years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant. During his high school years, he worked as a
lifeguard at the community pool, as well as taught lifesaving and scuba diving. He always loved being near the water!
In June 1960, he wed the love of his life, Virginia Dare Martin and they went on to have three children, Allen, Jeff, and Deleah.
Gene enjoyed fishing, boating, and sports as a spectator and participant, having played soft ball for St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church league and bowling on several bowling leagues in Savannah. He took his exceptional bowling talent to several national bowling championship tournaments.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gerry.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dare; his three children, Allen (Jody) Henderson, Jeff (Heather)
Henderson, Deleah (Joey) Arnold; his six grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Christina, Holly, Sophia, and Emily; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His family and friends were most important to him and hewas the happiest surrounded by all!
The family will be receiving friends Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406. A memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. after visitation.
