Friend to all and enemy of none, Emmit Hendrix, Jr., 82, of Richmond Hill, GA and Sapphre, NC passed away on Tuesday, December 25.  Emmit was born in Bulloch County, GA.
Emmit worked in the Automobile Business for many years before joining and retiring from Union-Camp Corporation where he was Supervisor in the Automotive Maintenance Department for 15 years.  He served within the 117th AC&W Squadron (Air National Guard) from 1955 to 1963.
Emmit had been a member of the Richmond Hill Marine Rescue Squadron, the Lions Club, Cashiers Historical Society, Sapphire National Golf Course--but most importantly--a member of the Richmond Hill and Lake Toxaway United Methodist Churches.
Emmit and Arlene retired to enjoy the mountains of Sapphire, NC in 1996.  Living life to the fullest, they traveled to all 50 States and many other countries. He enjoyed being with his family and friends as often as possible and golf with his buddies.
In addition to his mother and step-father, Lillian and Rufus Conner, Emmit was preceded in death by his son, Mark Steven, his sisters Rita Morris and Mary Rucker; and his brother Doy Conner.
He is survived by his soulmate of 61 years whom he cherished and adored, Arlene Chapman Hendrix; his son Richard E. (Patricia) Hendrix and his daughter Lisa (Joe E.) Winter; five grandchildren:  Joe S.  (Kristi) Winter, Brian (Amanda) Winter, Pete Williamson, Travas (Laura) Williamson, and Drew (Brandon) Fulton; and, eight great-grandchildren whom he adored.  He is also survived by brothers Ray Conner and Randy (Kathy) Conner; one sister, Marie (A. G.) Wells; and Sister-in-Law Delores Long, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Clyde Chapel of Richmond Hill United Methodist Church from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. in the main Sanctuary of the Church.
The family appreciates their extended family, friends, the medical communities in Savannah and North Carolina, and Hospice Savannah for lovingly caring for him for the past 2-1/2 years.
