Emmett Simmie Clanton Jr., of Savannah, Ga passed away Sunday August 12, 2018 under the care of Kindred Hospice.
Simmie was in the US Navy and was aboard the ship USS Taluga. He was in the Korean war and served in the capacity of Combat Operations. He was also in the National Guard. He was a member of the Elks-BPOE 183, American Legion 184, and the Chatham Artillery. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and fishermen. He wanted to give an honorable mention to his fellow golfers at Bacon Park and Mary Calder golf course. Simmie was a member of the ConneXion United Methodist Church. He retired from Independent Life Insurance Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emmett Sr. and Mertie Clanton; one brother, Ervin Clanton; two sisters, Leona Clement and Audrey Long.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years and the love of his life Shirley Edwards Clanton; two daughters, Cynthia Collins (Michael) of Guyton, Ga and Angela Mingledorff (Michael) of Bloomingdale, Ga; one brother, Robert S. Clanton of Savannah, Ga; one sister, Myrtle Patterson of Savannah, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Morris (Ray), Kristopher Collins (Kasey), Brittany Barton (Nick), and Megan Barnwell (Travis); and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday August 14, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
Funeral Service: Wednesday August 15, 2018 at 1pm with Rev. Michael Culbreth officiating at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
