Elton Eddie Stuenckel

March 11, 1922 — May 6, 2024

Elton passed on May 6 th , 2024 after living a full life to the age of 102! Elton Eddie Stuenckel was born March 11, 1922 in New Braunfels TX a little town outside of San Antonio… He was a loving and devoted husband and dear friend to his wife Ruth whom he married in 1974. Ruth predeceased Elton on March 21 st , 2023… about a year before Elton’s passing…

He is survived by four (4) sons Steven (Steve), Erik (Rik), Kurt, and Karl born to Elton and his first wife Betty (deceased), and three (3) stepsons Greg, Dave, and Tom born to Ruth (deceased) and her previous husband Fred Chapman (deceased). Between Elton and Ruth, they had seven (7) sons/stepsons, nine (9) grandchildren and thirteen (13) great-grandchildren and counting…

Elton earned an Associates of Arts Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956 and pursued additional education from U of Penn in future years… Among other accomplishments, he was an adjunct professor at Glassboro State College in NJ, now Rowan University, he served on the Board of the Miss America Pageant, and also served on the board and as president of the Seabrook House alcoholism treatment center, a member of the National Association of Hospital Development, and served many other various industry and local groups… Elton loved his early career working in advertising. He started as a copy writer at the San Antonio Light newspaper before joining the Navy to serve during WWII. In the Navy, Elton served on a Mine Sweeper and met his first wife Betty Jean Thomas in New Jersey where they raised their four boys.

Elton married Ruth in 1974 and they lived in New Jersey until they retired and moved to Savannah, GA in 1989 where they were blessed with a long, successful, and happy marriage culminating in 35 years of retirement in Savannah, GA… Elton and Ruth were active members in their community including being members of the Wesley Monumental Methodist Church of Savannah, GA…

Elton was very successful in business, and his professional career included working as an executive for the South Jersey Gas Company as their Vice President of Marketing, and later was the Director of Community Relations and Development for Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point New Jersey before he retired.…

Elton’s passion outside of family and home was painting and golf, both which he continued throughout his life… Elton and Ruth both loved painting, especially watercolors, including giving art/painting classes at the Southbridge Golf Course Clubhouse…

Elton loved life and was passionate until the end, sharing his love, humor, and sometimes his endearing stubbornness, but most of all his sharp mind and wit which he generously shared with others who knew him…

Personal note by son Rik: In his final days, I told Elton, “Dad, you are a good man and I’m proud of you and your accomplishments, you lived a long and good life!” and Elton responded, “I was a “Champ”, and I think that’s enough!” I said, “Yes you are dad, you’re a Champ!” Dad was saying that he was a winner in life! He comported himself according to his high standards, and with grace and dignity, for 102 years! I hope we all can have that kind of satisfaction and meaning in life, feel good about ourselves and our accomplishments, and feel at peace when it is our time to end our journey on Earth. Elton is loved by all of us and we will miss him…
