Elsie O. Powers, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Born August 13th, 1930 in Collins, Georgia, Elsie was a dedicated servant to her Lord and family.
Elsie graduated from Collins High School in Collins, Ga where she served as senior class president and received the Citizens Award. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Southwestern Business College in Atlanta, Georgia. She enjoyed work as Deputy Clerk of Superior Court in Tattnall County, Administrative Assistant in the Civil Service with top secret clearance, and along with her husband, ran several businesses. She was a member of Southside Assembly of God of Savannah, Georgia since 1974, and served over fifty years as a Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Teresa Moore of Savannah, GA, and cherished granddaughter, Tiffany Wissmach (Rick), and Rick Moore (“son”), granddaughters Ellison Wissmach White (Dustin), Emilee Wissmach, brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her father, Ellis Oliver, her mother, Lorena Oliver, her spouse, LTC Thomas C. Powers, and her loving sisters, Evelyn, Eleanor, and Edna.
Elsie will be remembered for her expressions of love and kindness, her birthday cards and bags, and her commitment to prayer. She invested in people’s lives, and wanted everyone to know they were loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Southside Assembly of God.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey West.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406).
