Elbert W. Byrd "Duck", 79, of Richmond Hill, Ga passed away Saturday June 23, 2018 at Glenvue Nursing Home. He graduated high school for Benedictine Military school and was a member of the Cobra Club. He owned and operated Byrd's Meat Market with several locations. He was a sales manager at JC Lewis Ford for 12 years and was sales manager for Savannah beverage for 15 years, where he was awarded Businessman of the Year by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce two years in a row. He was a U.S. Marine.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years Betty Jean Byrd; parents Walter and Mary Byrd; brother, Preston Byrd.
He is survived by his children Walter E. Byrd Jr. (Barbara), Robert M. Byrd, and Elizabeth Weatherly (John); step-son, Tom Bentley (Shelena); step-daughters, Sheri Wiggens and Penny Phillips (Robert); sister, Sarah Byrd Bart; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren,and many beloved friends and family members.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Jason and Crystal Cheek and children Madison and Kodi; and Glenvue Nursing Home for their support and all they have done.
Visitation: Tuesday June 26, 2018 from 12 pm to 1 pm at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Hubert C. Baker chapel.
Funeral Service: Tuesday June 26, 2018 1 pm at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Hubert C. Baker chapel. Interment will follow after service to Forest Lawn Cemetery.
