Elaine Teresa Williams
1954 - 2018
Obituary
On Friday, January 26, 2018, Elaine Teresa Williams went home to be with the Lord. Providence granted Elaine what life could no longer give....health and wholeness. Her body simply could no longer serve her, and in faith we affirm God gave her eternal life.
Elaine Teresa Williams was born in Harlem, New York, on May 26, 1954, to Ernest and Flossie Williams. She began her elementary school education in Brooklyn. The family moved to Savannah, Georgia where Elaine received a Catholic education at St. Benedict the Moor grade school and she graduated from St. Vincent Academy high school. She received her B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice in 2004 from St. Leo's University. Elaine received her Certified Addiction Counselor Level II in 2013.
During her professional career, Elaine was a counselor /case manager. However Elaine was always willing to go above and beyond to fill any positions. Some of the places that were graced by her presence are Willingway Hospital, Tidelands Adolescent and Adult Treatment Center, Gateway Behavioral Health Systems, and Recovery Place. She played a key role, along with Judge James Bass, in developing the Chatham County Drug Court in 2001 as the Assistant Director/Program Coordinator, helping people who are suffering from substance abuse. At the time of her transitions she was employed at Georgia Regional, where she was a Certified Addiction Counselor Level II and she was loved by all.
Lane was known in the LGBT community as, "POPPI", and she had a WHOLE BUNCH of CHUREN!!!!
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Flossie Williams, and her brother Thomas Martin. She will be greatly missed by her loving brother Donald (Fran)Brown, her devoted sister Joanne Murray, her sisters Carolyn Harris and Shirley Mitchell, and brother Willie Taylor, her loving partner and companion of 17 years Brenda Brown, her Aunt (Mama Geech) Daisy Lonnon, nephews Sheldon Martin (Jackie), Tyrone Brown, (Gladys) and Kenneth (Robb) Murray (Elly); nieces Katrina Stevens (Terence) and Celeste Jeudy, Nicole Hunter, the joys of her life Nicole Wilson and Michael Greene, her rock in times of turmoil Sherry Bartley, grandchildren, grandnephews, grandnieces and great-grand nieces and a host of cousins, godchildren, friends and co-workers.
Elaine passionately loved and cared for her family and friends, and always let them know that she loved them. She loved her patients and coworkers, and they loved her in return.
An obituary of such a one as Elaine Teresa Williams can only reflect a faint glow in the writing thereof, but all who know her will forever see its light. Such a light cannot be darkened; it will glow forever.
Lovingly submitted, the Family
