In addition to his parents,James O. Stack and Bessie L. Stack, he was preceded in death by sister, Mildred Stack Yost; brother, Jimmy Donald Stack; brother, Tony Jeff Stack and niece, Tammy Stack Hill.
Surviving relatives include two sons he loved deeply, James Cabral Stack and Anthony Cabral Stack (Magda), one brother, Ray Dillon Stack (Norma), a sister in law, Gayle, nephews and nieces who truly love him.
Mr. Stack was born on March 23,1939 in North Carolina to the late James O. Stack and the late Bessie Lowder Stack. He was the "baby" of five children. After growing up in Kannapolis, NC, Efird joined the U.S. Navy where he became a career pilot and officer and also graduated from George Washington University. His adventures were many, and he thoroughly enjoyed sharing the stories. Most noted was his role in Vietnam as an A6 pilot based on an aircraft carrier. He received many military honors, continued to grow and learn, always reading and articulating well thoughts and facts.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he worked with Grumman Aeronautics, Saudi Arabia Civil Air Safety and later returned to Savannah with Gulfstream and Flight Safety International. He made frequent trips to Brazil, where his sons lived and grew up.
Bud made a personal decision to respond to the pursuing love of Christ and genuinely began growing in that grace and love during his time in Brazil with Bible Study Fellowship. This heart for growing continued in the two churches where he was invested in Savannah, GA, the place he called home for most of his adult years. Bud was involved sharing his love for Christ with turns in the nursery and as a Sunday School teacher at Bull St. Baptist; he also assisted in the college ministry as well as ministering through meals to the elderly and so much more. Several mission trips happened with groups, with one to Israel being special. He was a part of this body of believers for many years and has maintained contact with friends. During the past number of years Bud met for weekly discipleship with the "Band of Brothers" led by Kenny Grant. Four years ago, Bud joined Calvary Baptist Church and became immersed in that body of believers. He formed close friends, loved being in worship each week and became closely associated with all in his Sunday School Class. That group of people, who ate lunch together each Sunday, met one another's needs and prayed for each other, had become family to him. We are especially grateful for their ministry in the past 15 months as he dealt with Dementia/Alzheimer's. Bud was a part of Gideons International, Savannah Chapter and met weekly with these brothers in Christ who put God's Word into the world that others would know Him.
Visitation for Bud Stack will be Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial Chapel from 3:00 until 5:00 pm.
A funeral service will be on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church, Wilder Chapel at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow on Wednesday, April 26, at 11 am at West Lawn Memory Gardens in China Grove, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a church or charity of your choice or Gideons International in his honor would be a blessing.
