Edward Eugene "Gene" Clark Sr., 81, of Savannah, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his
home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Savannah, GA to the late Edward Alexis
Clark and Myrtle Grace Ambrose Clark.
On June 25, 1960, he married the love of his life, Joan Cain Clark. Together they celebrated 58
years of wonderful marriage and had two children. Gene grew up in South Gardens where he
attended South Gardens Baptist Church. He graduated from Commercial High in 1955 and
served in the US National Guard. He retired from Southern States Phosphate and Fertilizer
Company as Plant Engineer after 37 dedicated years working closely with Reed Dulany Jr., a
great boss and friend.
Gene was an avid remote control airplane enthusiast spending many years with the Tri County
RC Flyers flying club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his children
and grandchildren and was always eager to help anyone. Gene was a talented mechanic and
woodworker and loved solving technical challenges. He possessed superior problem solving
skills and could fix almost anything.
In addition to his beloved wife Joan, Gene is survived by his children, Dr. Karen Clark Panzitta
(Lenny) of Savannah, GA, Edward "Gene" Clark, Jr. (Pat) of Leonardtown, MD; five
grandchildren: Edward "Eddie", Emily, and Eric Clark of Leonardtown, MD, Elena and Geena
Panzitta of Savannah; sister, Barbara Edwards (Bennie) of East Dublin, GA; a brother, Ronald
Clark (Elsie) of Savannah, GA; close sister-in-law and her husband, Joy and Robert Jue; and
many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Jerald
William Clark.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 1:30-3:00pm at the Baker
McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel with a graveside service at 3:30 in the
Greenwich section, Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family would like to give special thanks to the dedicated and compassionate care from Mary
Oglesby, Oliver Williams and Hospice Savannah, Inc. Memorial contributions may be made to
Hospice Savannah, Inc. or to the Parkinson's Foundation.
