Edward Emory "Red" Smith

Edward Emory “Red” Smith, age 88, of Savannah, GA passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 under the care of Amedisys Hospice at Harmony of Savannah.

Ed was born in Savannah, GA on January 30, 1933, the son of the late Emory Edward Smith and Ruth Lipsey Smith. He graduated from Commercial High School and was a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor at the CRTC with the Georgia Air National Guard. He retired from the Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant and served in the Korean War. Red was a charter member of Savannah Christian Church and helped pioneer the East Campus of Compassion Christian Church of which he was a current member. He was a member of the Savannah Association of Flying Air National Guardsman, the Coffee Bluff Marine Rescue Squadron, the Cobra Club, and the Grey Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, boating, softball, and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Pearlene Youmans Smith and his brother, Jack Cox.

He is survived by his son, Michael Smith (Victoria) of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Pamela Smith of Savannah, GA and Angela Corder (Denis) of Cleveland, TN; brother, Ronald Smith (Nancy) of Bluffton, SC; sister, Ruth Van Zandt (James) of Bauxite, AR; grandchildren, Megan Lawrence of Lake Wylie, SC and Steven Smith of North Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren, Ella Lawrence, Adalyn Smith, Cooper Lawrence, and Hudson Lawrence.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Compassion Christian Church - East Campus, 9150 Old Montgomery Road, Savannah, GA 31406. Burial will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Harmony at Savannah for their love, care, and always going above and beyond for their father.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Coffee Bluff Marine Rescue Squadron, 14915 White Bluff Road, Savannah, GA 31419.
