Edna Louise Witherington

March 24, 1946 — October 31, 2023

Edna Louise Witherington, age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Louise was born in Savannah, GA to parents Mary Allison and Jack H. Taylor.

Louise met the love of her life, Dennis Elson Witherington, Jr. (aka Bubba, and DEWjr Bubba) at a garbage fire in the Montgomery area of Savannah. The two married shortly after.

Louise graduated from Jenkins High School in 1964. While in high school, she was active in the nursing club.

Later on, Louise and Dennis welcomed two daughters, Mary Louise and Cynthia Marie.

The only time she was ever overtly angry was when Dennis completely rearranged her kitchen without her knowledge. In spite of this incident, Dennis continued to live
until the age of 80.

Louise’s work life centered around the cafeteria at Memorial Day School and the Owens-Thomas House, where she worked as a docent for over 2o years. Louise was a nurturer and her love language was food. She knew what people needed before they did, and it was usually a pound cake. Her daughters’ friends always knew where to be on Friday nights- Dennis was churning out homemade pizzas and Louise took care of everything else. While she worked at the Owens-Thomas house, she provided hot weekend meals for the SCAD students who worked there with her.

Louise grew up at Montgomery Presbyterian Church on Ferguson Avenue. After marrying, she moved her membership to White Bluff Presbyterian, where she became an active member of the Women of the Church and later a Deacon. She was a girl scout leader, as well as a member of the Montgomery Athletic Association’s Women’s Auxiliary.

Louise is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis “Bubba” Witherington Jr., and her parents Mary Allison Taylor and Jack H. Taylor.

She is survived by her brothers, Jack Taylor and John Taylor; her daughters, Mimi and Cindy; as well as her stepson Bobby Witherington and stepdaughter Sherry Cowart. Louise has 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Her later life revolved around Michael and Taylor Reed, as well as their children, Michael, Jr., Delainey, and Carter.

The family will be receiving friends and family in a celebration of Louise’s life at Baker McCullough Funeral Home on Monday, November 6th, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
