Edna Vernell "Nell" Burgess, 84, of Garden City passed away Wednesday, July 20th, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Otis and Ethel Wooten Benson.
Nell was a member of Central Baptist Church and had worked for Massey Funeral Home for many years. She was an avid Thrift Store shopper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Vicki Burned; brothers, Royce and Edward Benson; her sister, Lavonia Howell.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, John Howard "Big John" Burgess, children, Kathy and L.B. Davis, Connie and Herb Hendrick, Pam Clemmons and Ron Mawson; grandchildren, Tonya Wise, Terri Hodges, Amanda Dean, Lara Newsome, Jamie Swinson, Jonathan Clemmons and Lindsey Butler; brothers, O.C. and Willard Benson; sisters, Joyce Williams and Maudine Ricks; many great grandchildren, great great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 24th, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Baker McCullough Funeral Home - Garden City Chapel, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Per Mrs. Nell's request all that will be attending her service are ask to dress in bright colors.
