Edgar Raymond Groover

Edgar Raymond Groover (Ray), 80, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on September 29, 2023. Born in Savannah, GA, Ray graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1961 and then enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in San Diego, CA. He and his bride of 57 years, Jeanie Johnson, were married in June of 1966 and had three daughters.

After the Navy, Ray spent the majority of his career with CSX Railroad Corporation as a machinist at the Savannah yard and finished his career at St Joseph's/Candler in the Facilities Department. Ray was a Deacon and active member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends. He also loved photography, playing the guitar, watching Georgia football games, and could fix just about anything. Music and movies were a big part of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Groover, and daughters, Angela Chu (Jeff), Beth Bock (James) and Lori Gleichenhaus (Joe), as well as 5 grandchildren, Haley Schmitt, David Gleichenhaus, Riley Bock, Jacob Chu & Noah Gleichenhaus. He will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be at Baker McCullough Funeral Home on Hodgson Memorial Drive on Tuesday, October 3rd from 5-7pm. The funeral will be at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 4th at 11:00 am followed by the graveside service at Greenwich Cemetery. Donations can be made to Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church.
