Earsel "Dave" Davis - 84
Earsel "Dave" Davis, 84, of Pooler, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. The last week of his life was spent in the Rincon, Georgia home of his daughter, Sheila Cela, under the loving care of Sheila and his son, DeWayne Davis along with many other loving and caring friends and family.
Born in Kirbyville, Texas on February 3, 1934 to Thomas "Tom" and Mary West Davis; he was the twelfth of thirteen children and was the last surviving sibling. In November 1954, he enlisted in the US Air Force (USAF) and served for over 21 years before retiring in Savannah, Georgia on April 1, 1976. His service in the Air Force included duty in Okinawa and VietNam as well as many locations throughout the US. After his USAF retirement, he followed his passion for cars and became an auto mechanic and auto body repair specialist as well as the owner of a Savannah auto service station. He was avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time with his family and friends on the water or outdoors. After moving from Savannah to Pooler, Georgia, he served as an active member of Pooler First Baptist Church and loved his church family.
In addition to his parents and 12 siblings, Earsel was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Comte Davis, the mother of their three children, and his second wife, Angie Smith Davis. He is survived by son DeWayne Davis and his wife Donna of Buford, GA, son Melvin Davis of Pooler, GA, and daughter Sheila Cela of Rincon, GA; three grandchildren, Shalon Cela, Matt Cela and Kevin Davis along with three great-grandchildren, Alex Cela, Cohen Perry and Bridgett Cela.
A special thank you to the staff and residents of Oaks Senior Living of Pooler where he was a resident since November 2016, to the nurses and staff of Compassus Hospice Care and to Zeppone Caring Hands.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Baker McCullough Funeral Home 2794 Highway 80 W, Garden City, GA 31408 (912-964-2862). The funeral service will be at Baker McCullough Funeral Chapel 2794 Highway 80 W, Garden City, GA at 1:30PM on Saturday, June 23 followed by internment with military honors at Hillcrest Abbey West 1336 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, GA.
