Dr. Earl B. Willhoit, D.D.S., died Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Savannah, Ga.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, November 1,1923, the son of the late August Stuart and Ruth Broadwell Willhoit.
Earl served in the U.S. Navy 1942-1946, during WW II. Following discharge, Earl served 4 years in the Navy Reserve.
He attended Case Western Reserve University, receiving a B.A. in Math, 1953, and graduated from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Dentistry,1957.
Dr. Wilhoit practiced dentistry in Parma, Ohio until his retirement in 1982. He was also on the staff of Cleveland Psychiatric Institute for 25 years.
Dr. Willhoit was the founder and first president of Southwest Dental Study Group, Parma, Ohio. He was appointed to the Ohio State Dental Board, 1977-1983, and served as President during his last year. He was a dental examiner with the North East Regional Dental Board for over 30 years.
Earl had been a member of several organizations; Cleveland Dental Society, Ohio Dental Society, and the American DentalAssociation. Alumni Board of Trustees, and the Visiting Committee at CWRU Dental School and was Distinguished Alumni of the year in 2007. He was a Delegate to the Ohio Dental Association for 12 years, and on the Personal Review Committee for Cleveland Dental Society and at the State Level. Earl was accepted as a fellow to the International College of Dentist (1978), and a fellow of the American College of Dentists(1980). He was also a member of the American Association of Dental Examiners, Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, to name a few.
Earl became a Certified Financial Planner in 1977 and worked 3 years as a Stock Broker for Merrill Lynch. He was a member of the International Association of Financial Planners and the Certified Financial Planners Association.
Earl was a member of Masonic Lodge #634, Cleveland, Ohio, Scottish Rite and Shriner, and transferred to Solomon's Lodge # 1.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Wilma Walter Willhoit; brother, Rolla Willhoit, and sisters, Betty Barb, Nan Cason, and Mary Anne Darata.
Survivors include his daughter, Tiffany W. Kolat(Ronald) grandchildren, Brent Kolat and Brittany Kolat Richardson,(Brandon) and great grandson Banks Richardson, his sister, Polly Lewis, and many nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service is Friday, February 3rd, at 3:00 at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway, Savannah,Georgia. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine 10900 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44106, Hospice Savannah 1674 Chatham Parkway Savannah Ga 31411, or Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.
