Douglas Edward Moon

June 23, 1964 — February 18, 2024

Douglas Edward Moon, 59, of Savannah, Georgia passed away on Sunday, February 18th at St. Joseph’s hospital after a short illness.

Douglas was a family man who loved the outdoors. He loved Savannah and always said that he could always breathe a little easier when those coastal winds would blow.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late W.J. Moon and Judy Ann (Stout) Moon. He was preceded in death by his father, W.J. Moon; brother, Rodney Moon; and two infant sons.

He loved his family with all of his heart! He loved his wife of 36 years, Cheryl Moon, and had two beautiful children, Jacob Isaac Moon and Sarah Victoria Moon. Douglas was the best father, supporting his children with their passions. He shared his love of the outdoors with Jake. He was a Boy Scout leader in Troop 499, Grayson, Georgia, and supported Jake as he earned his Eagle Scout Award. Sarah shared his love for country music and horses. They often spent their Saturdays at the barn, riding and taking care of horses.

Nothing meant more to him than his parents, but his mom was so special to him. He loved his sisters, Diana Moon, Lorrie (Moon) Mangum, Missy (Moon) Pack and his brothers, Rodney Moon, Lance Moon and Matthew Moon. He also cherished his sisters-in-law Diane Bolt and Debbie (Bolt) Glaser.

Douglas grew up with a passion for craftsmanship that would guide him throughout his life. Over the span of four decades he honed his skills as a master carpenter, metal worker, and artisan mold maker. He loved working as a mold and capital maker of architecture columns with his dad at Hartmann Sanders. Some of his work is displayed at Carnegie Hall and Disney World...which will stand the test of time. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family!

Douglas enjoyed the simple pleasures of being outdoors, loving fishing and hunting. He was a great storyteller especially when it came to his fish stories. He loved college football, especially his Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, and Oklahoma Sooners. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

A celebration of life service is planned for St. George Island, Florida, his favorite fishing spot. Our family spent many vacations enjoying swimming, fishing, playing games, and eating shrimp. We will always cherish those sweet memories.

Donations can be made in his name to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF).

He touched so many people! He will truly be missed!
