Douglas Eugene "Bill" Harman, 91, of Savannah, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at his residence, under the care of Islands Hospice.

He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and moved to Savannah in 1941 from Athens, Alabama.

He graduated from Savannah High School in 1942, and graduated from Armstrong Junior College in 1947.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served 3 years, with 2 years overseas serving in the China - Burma India Theater, with the "Flying Tigers" of The 14th Air Force Headquarters.    He was then recalled to Service with the Tennessee Air National Guard, and served 2 years during the Korean Conflict.

He married Dorothy M. Johnson, Dec 28, 1947, and they resided in Nashville, Tennessee for 6 years.

He was a Partner, in Harman Motors for 48 years, which was located at 340 Montgomery Street.

He was a member of the March of Dimes for 27 years, the Sertoma Club for 25 years, Civilian Defense Group for 4 years, Legislative study Commission, Kwana Loma Dance Club for 20 years, a member and Past Master of Ancient Landmark Lodge # 231, F. & A.M's, the Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Savannah, Alee Shrine Temple, member of the Keystone Kops, the Alee Patrol, the Tybee Lite Shrine Club, Past Director of "Royal Order of Jesters", the Knights of Mecca, and a member of George K. Ganem  American Legion Post # 185, for 55 Years.  He was also a member of the Red Cross 9 Gallon Blood Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his daughter, Julie Ann Harman, his brother, Robert E. Harman..

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy J. Harman,  daughters, Debora Freeman (Rick), Carol Lea Rivera, son, Douglas E. Harman, Jr., (Michele), five grandchildren, Darcy and Rory Harman, Preston Freeman, Nicholas and Austin Rivera,  sister in law, (JoAnne), and brother and sister in law, Carl Harman (Barbara), and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation:  6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.

Funeral Services:  11 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

His hobbies included Renovations of Old Houses , and devoting his time to organizations, committed to helping the Crippled and Burn Children.
