Dorothy Brown Snelling, "Dot" passed away Saturday, January 2 at the age of 95 surrounded by family and under the care of Pruitt Health Hospice.
She was born in Savannah on September 24, 1925 to Minnie and Eddie Brown.
As a senior, at Commercial High School she met Jack Snelling, a senior at the University of Georgia on a blind date in Barnwell, SC. After graduation, he went into the Army and she went to work for Southeast Shipbuilders in Savannah. They corresponded during World War II and then were married in May 1946. They spent most of their 56 years of marriage living in Savannah where she was a homemaker raising 3 children. She was a long time active member of Whitefield United Methodist Church until it closed, then joined Grace United Methodist Church. In 2015, she moved to John Wesley Villas Retirement Community where she was a very active participant in all the activities and made some very dear friends.
Dot is predeceased by her husband Jack Snelling; parents, Minnie and Eddie Brown, her 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Laura & Ben Simmons, Rose and Winman DeLoach, Jean & George Scott; sister-in-law Ruth Snelling Linley (Barney), brother-in-law Billy Snelling and son-in-law Frank Alsop.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine Alsop, daughter and son-in-law Ruth & Curtis Illies, son and daughter-in-law John and Cheryl Snelling, granddaughter Heather and her husband Patrick Brooks, great grandson Carter Brooks and great granddaughter Cora Brooks.
The family would like to thank the staff at John Wesley Villas for their help and kindness during these last few months and Pruitt Health Hospice for all the help and support they provided.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 7, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Grace United Methodist Church 6412 Waters Ave. Savannah, GA 31406, these donations will be used to fund a well in Africa thru Bobby Gale Ministries in memory of Dorothy and Jack Snelling.
