Dorothy Chisholm Wallace, widow of Dr. Stuart M. Wallace died Sunday afternoon, April 19 in Savannah, Ga. She was 91. She was the matriarch of eight children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren and their spouses, two great grandchildren and many grand-dogs and cats.
Mrs. Wallace was under the constant care of You First Home Care, and surrounded by loving family when she passed away.
Mrs. Wallace was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., but established her family in Savannah and became a tightly woven thread in the city's fabric. Knowing no one upon arrival, Dr. and Mrs. Wallace joined the 3Gs; a fun-loving supper club of seven couples who Guzzled, Gulped and Gabbed together for more than 20 years.
Genealogy and history was as important to Mrs. Wallace as her family. She was a founding and active member of the Savannah Genealogical Society, kept volumes of personal research and filled her hallways with photos of family past and present. Once, while looking at a large family tree, one of her grandchildren asked her if any of those people were important.
"All of them," Mrs. Wallace said. "Without them, you wouldn't be here today."
Mrs. Wallace was proud of her Scottish heritage, and put time, love and energy into The Coastal Scottish Heritage Society. The organization presented her and her husband The President's Award for 17 years of voluntary service to the Scottish Games.
Dr. and Mrs. Wallace loved to travel the world, and ventured to Japan, Europe and Australia, many times getting to enjoy the journey with children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Georgia Medical Society, a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church and a former member of Memorial Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years; parents, Dr. Allison and Helen Chisholm; siblings, Gordon Chisholm and Helen Smith; and son-in-law, Jimmy Page.
She is survived by her children, Lynn Page, Ron and Holly Wallace, Janice and Bud Sauers, Sharon and Ram Iyer, Gary Wallace, Ann and Paul Doolittle, Mark and Adrienne Wallace, and Nancy Wallace; sister, Florence Bowman; grandchildren, Stephanie and Matt Kelly, Phillip and Amy Page, Jonathan and Sarah Page, Casey and Kelli Wells, Hollie Wells, Ram and Amy Iyer, Asha Iyer, Christopher and Megan Wallace, Jennifer and Noah Ronberg, Lindsey and Lee Collum, Christine and Curtis Smith, and Rachelle and Josh Johnson; and great grandsons Samuel Wallace Johnson and Kaden Wells.
Mrs. Wallace loved and appreciated her round-the-clock caretakers Jennifer Bulle, Sheryl Crawford, Janice Ryant, Audrey Graham, Delphine Harris, Leslie Bryant and Linda Scott, as well as the doctors and staff of Dr. Karen Hanna, Dr. Jeanne Hungerpiller and Dr. James Meadows.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Bonaventure Funeral Home at 2520 Bonaventure Road. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 24 at 11 a.m. at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church at 1008 E. Henry St. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Mausoleum following the funeral.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Phillip Page, Jonathan Page, Chris Wallace, Noah Ronberg, Lee Collum, Josh Johnson, Curtis Smith and Ram Iyer, Jr.
