Dicky (Cecil Leon) Allen, 71, of Richmond Hill, GA passed peacefully late February 9, 2017 at Hospice House Savannah. He loved his life, his family, his friends and especially loved being Pappa to his twin grandsons, who lived with him, Eric and Joseph Nyberg.
He was born January 20, 1946 in Savannah, GA to the late Cecil and Luvenia Allen. He is preceeded in death by his son, Michael Leon Allen King and his wife, Belenda L. Allen.
Dicky worked at National Linen and Sealtest Ice Cream, but his love was his job at Roger Wood Foods. His passion was driving the truck and delivering product over multiple states. Even after retiring after 30 years of service, he continued to wor, driving when needed, and when his health stated to decline he worked in the guard shack and never hesitated to tell upper management what he thought they were doing wrong and when he thought the routes were set up incorrectly. He was totally devoted to the owners of Roger Wood and I always teased him and told him that although he thought his name was Solona it was really Allen.
Dicky loved to do everything; as long he was moving he was happy. He played golf and had not one but two hole in one; one in April 1999 and the other in April 2004; he was a member of the Waterford Golf Club, another passion was to play poker and dominoes with friends, as often as possible. He also loved to dance and met Susan at Savannah Shag Club where they were members for many years. He always loved the friends he made there. Most people don't know that for numerous years he was a Mystery Santa and visited the sick at hospitals and nursing homes. We spent many Christmas Eve's separating the fruit and goodies and placing them in the back of his RED truck. Best memory is driving down the road behind a station wagon full of kids and them screaming about Santa being behind them. He bowled for years with Susan and they traveled to tournaments all over the country with our bowling friends. But anyone who knows him knows that we loved to cruise. When the doctors told us his condition last year, we decided to make the most of every day and managed to make 3 more cruises. We were supposed to be on a cruise, in the casino, the day he died.
Dicky is survived by his companion and partner Susan Lutz Nyberg, his aunt, Lillie Martin, one brother Richard Allen (Liz) , two sisters Betty Allen Williams and Frances Allen Spitler (Bob); his children, Scott Allen (Magdeline), Eric Nyberg (Mitzi), Elaine Jolly, Jill Allen (Michelle), and Michele Nyberg. He also had 8 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbears are Buford Daniels, Mark Solona, Curtis Futch, Pat Ciez, Larry Drawdy, Luther Hammond, John Howard and Curtis Futch.
Viewing will be Sunday between 5 and 7 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. The funeral service will be 11 AM Monday in the chapel. Burial will be at Bonaventure Cemetery, 330 Bonaventure Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
