Denise Rae Wilson Howard, a beloved mother, nana, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the age of 62. Denise was born on Sunday, June 3, 1962, in Savannah, Georgia, where she spent her entire life. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Denise dedicated her professional life as a Secretary at B. Kerr Courier Service, where her dedication and warm personality won her the admiration of her colleagues and clients alike. Beyond her work, Denise was known for her love of the great outdoors, spending cherished moments fishing and camping surrounded by the beauty of nature and her love of animals. She was an avid music lover, with a special fondness for the music of Jason Aldean, and enjoyed attending concerts and engaging in line dancing. She was also a car and motorcycle enthusiast who loved all things Harley and had a deep appreciation for older restored cars and trucks.
Her family was Denise's greatest joy. She is survived by her two daughters, Nicole Rae Quarterman and Natalie Quarterman Shropshire (Michael), and her treasured granddaughter, Abigail Kate "Doodle Bug" Shropshire, with whom she shared a special bond and many sweet memories baking together. Denise is also survived by her father, Jack O Wilson, her mother, Gilda Wilson, her sister, Kim Wilson Johnston, and the father of her children, David Sanford Quarterman. She leaves behind several aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Denise was predeceased by her cherished maternal grandmother, Jean Moss Smith, her paternal grandfather, Ray William Moss, and her paternal grandparents, Henry D. and Lessie Wilson.
A woman of faith, Denise was a lifelong member of Silk Hope Baptist Church, where she was part of a supportive community of believers. A movie enthusiast, particularly of comedies, Denise was known for her infectious laughter and fun-loving personality, which brought joy to everyone around her.
Visitation will be Monday, April 14, 2025 from 11am until Noon at the funeral home. The funeral service will be Monday, April 14, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia. Following the service, Denise will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Abbey West.
