David C. Whatley, 76, of Bloomingdale, GA, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Henry C. Whatley Jr and Avis Kay Sheely Panter.
David was a very loving Husband, Father, and Poppy. He was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Gilmore during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Georgia Pacific Corp.
Paneling Mill in Garden City, GA after 35 years. He designed and constructed many of the machines that saved the company millions of dollars.
David was married to the love of his life, Joanne Whatley, for nearly 59 years. He loved his family and enjoyed several hobbies: photography, woodworking, model trains, and metal detecting just to name a few. He loved the Lord and attended South Newington Baptist until his mobility made it difficult for him.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Griffin Whatley, daughter, Kimberly Whatley Cannon (James), Two sons, Jeffrey David Whatley (Kris), and Jason Clay Whatley (Lolly). A sister, Linda Lea Garguilo (David) of Foster City, CA. A sister-in-law, Linda Kennedy, and two brothers-in-law, John R. Griffin (Phyllis), and Ronnie E. Griffin. Three grandsons, Kyle Cannon, Jace Whatley, and Payton Whatley. Three granddaughters, Alison Cannon, Ramsi Whatley, and Kassidy Whatley. Two great-granddaughters, Scarlet Cannon, and Violet Cannon. Also, a special young man that he considered as a son, Jeffrey Duggar (Ellen).
A celebration of David’s life will be held on April 13, 2024 at South Newington Baptist Church, 453 John Carter Rd., Bloomingdale, GA 31302. Visitation will begin at 12 pm immediately followed by the service at 12:30 pm with Rev. Steve McCoy and Pastor Matt Gallant officiating.
David’s favorite charity was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
