Reflections of Life
David Theodore "DJ" Jones was born June 4, 1942 in Savannah, Georgia, to Henrietta Battise Jones and the late Frank Jones. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Battise and grandson, Andrew Watts. David entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 30, 2017.He attended public schools in Savannah and in the Bronx, NY. After living many years in New York, he returned to Savannah, GA. and in July of 1986, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Alvenia Watts. This was true love and they shared many years of love and care for each other. David joined Coastal Cathedral Church of God where he served as an usher, worked with the Homeless Ministry, was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the Prime Timers Ministry. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired from there after 38 years of dedicated service. David was a member of the Wiley Family Circle and the Crusaders Community Organization. He had a passion for fishing and he was a gardener as well. His life's mission was about sharing, giving and showing love to his family, his friends and to everyone he met. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Alvenia Watts Jones; one daughter, Deirdre Jones of Greensboro, NC; two sons Steven (Takisha) Hayes of Greensboro, NC and Keith (Dena) Watts of Tampa, FL.; mother Henrietta B. Jones of Savannah; two sisters, Charlesetta Coleman of Savannah, GA and Brenda (Steve) Garrick of Pensauken, New Jersey; two brothers, Nathaniel (Arthur Mae) Battise of Savannah, GA and Robert Johnson of Savannah, GA; three sisters-in-law, Denia (Assoc. Pastor Arthur) Garza of Savannah, Francine Franklin of Orlando, FL. and Margaret Watts of Waynesboro, GA.; two brothers-in-law, Melvin (Flora) Watts and Milton (Carolyn) Robinson of Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, five God-children, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 11 - 12 pm Saturday April 8th at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hubert C. Baker Chapel 7415 Hodgson Memorial Dr. Savannah, GA. 31406. with the funeral service to follow at 12 pm.
